“New Year, New Me” I Guess.

Screw a New Year’s resolution, you guys. This time of year, I want to catapult that word right the F into space. I wish it never existed as a “thing we do” on NYE.

A resolution is: “the point in a literary work at which the chief dramatic complication is worked out” {Merriam-Webster}. So, if we were to apply that definition to our lives–tell me–what do we even focus on? When is it complete? Who determines our resolution as a success and crosses it off the long list of things? We do. Only us, as individuals.

So, why do we need to start that on 01/01?

Instead, I urge you to do things every day that make you feel whole and accomplished and happy. Start the day you’re reading this rant; don’t wait until you’re hungover in the first day of a new year. To be “best friend” harsh with you: nobody actually cares or will notice what you do [because they are too busy worrying about themselves]. Only you see those moments for what they are and only you are affected by them in the end.

Are you/did you make a resolution for 2019? Fire off in the comments and let me know what you think either way on this topic.

“One always dies too soon — or too late. And yet one’s whole life is complete at that moment, with a line drawn neatly under it, ready for the summing up. You are — your life, and nothing else.” — Jean-Paul Sartre
